Zurich / St. Gallen GAA

Zurich / Saint Gallen GAA is an amalgamation project started in September 2010 between Zurich Inneoin (established 2002), and St. Gallen Bears (2010). The project was established with the following goals:

1) to set up a second GAA club in Switzerland,

2) to allow the Irish community in Saint Gallen access to training and games with the already established Zurich Inneoin GAA,

3) to develop and encourage local participation and involvement in the GAA,

4) to assist the further development of the Zurich Inneoin GAA club,

5) to eventually have two strong clubs able to participate in all codes of the European GAA.

One year into the project Zurich are the European Hurling Champions. With a combined membership of 50+ plus, men and women, Irish and non-Irish alike have contributed to the success of this project. The combined team travels to Limerick to debut the wearing of “Bear Green” with high hopes of mounting a strong challenge in the final round of the European Shield.

Match Report: Pan European GAA Football 2011

The tournament began with a win over Lyon by  four points to one with the Saint Gallen seven and the Zurich eight amalgamating for the first time officially. A few of the players had played together and against each other before, some didn’t even know each other’s names but one thing for sure they were ready to give it their all for the cause. The game against Toulouse next was the “welcome to the tournament moment” that let us knew what we were in for, after a bad start with a goal from the first move of the game we were beaten 1-6 to 0-3 and found out exactly what needed to change for any future success in the tournament...Read More

Pan European Gaelic Football Finals 2011

Back from the most amazing weekend in my gaa history in limerick. the Zurich Saint Gallen Bears achieved a hard earned, hard fought third place in the shield competition for the second time in three years. We also got revenge on Frankfurt for beating us last year, we topped our group and played fantastic all day. Amsterdam A team the overall shield winners proved too strong in the semi but we gave them a real scare. I am so proud of our guys for their commitment, dedication, leadership, effort and sacrifices all year. We are 13 months into our GAA development project and with solid foundations and the best buddies and team mates anyone could ever ask for we are gonna make it. But we will do it our way. Thanks to all our supporters for their good wishes it meant alot but specific mention to Norm Burns, Joan Ennis and Aideen Roben who gave up their free weekend to allow Peter, Mick and Lacey to come. Also Tom Murphy and Linda Brutsch, Donnchadh and the O'Mahony/Careys, the Daly clan, Stevo and CB and last but not least Barry Hade. onwards and upwards for the future. Stay tuned.

Voter Confusion

A recent St.Gallen Bear's poll set up to determine who has the shortest shorts shows Mr. S.Murphy trailing badly. The website team have decided to come to Murphs aid with the accompanying photo, which we hope will help regain his rightful place in the annals of St.Gallen Bears, as the wearer of the shortest shorts.

Don't forget to vote for Murph and pledge your support to this worthy cause.
